Christmas Tree Decorating & Placement Committee Meeting

Master Gardener Volunteers we need Y O U !

Our first meeting on the Christmas Tree Committee took place on 10/25/2023, and weekly on Wednesday’s thereafter.  We brainstormed several ideas, and a few folks made and contributed some really awesome ornaments and materials!  As it turns out the Seguin Parks & Recreation department changed their registration method this year and didn’t send out any notice; so when Ernestine found out and went to register for the downtown Christmas Tree Decorating Contest all the spots downtown on the plaza were already taken. So we decided to do a still do a tree, but at a business downtown. Meanwhile we were number 5 on the Parks waiting list in the event enough cancellations happen we could still maybe participate, but we feared it was unlikely.

Well the unlikely happened today (11/20)! So we will be now be doing two trees this year!  Yes two trees! Woohoo!

We will have a live tree that will be placed at the Plaza. Ernestine & Sonny will bring it to our next meeting. While the final destination of the living tree for the Plaza has not been confirmed by the Parks department as yet, we expect to get this information prior to our meeting.  Ernestine is also bringing in an artificial tree which will be what we decorate and place at the Aumont Hotel in downtown Seguin (Date & Time are still to be determined for this placement as well).

Even though we are now doing two trees, I understand we already have all the materials, ornaments, etc. needed to do both trees.  We can always use more hands though!

During our next and potentially final Christmas Tree Decorating Committee meet up on 11/29/23 between 2pm & 5pm, the plan right now is to setup and decorate both trees, then break them both back down and move the live tree to the Plaza and potentially the artificial one to the Aumont Hotel then as well (pending placement information on both).  Dates & Times are subject to change so stay tuned for any updates.

Please note the time change of the last(?) meeting for this on 11/29/2023 is different than the prior ones.  We are now meeting from 2pm to 5pm in the MG Library!
