FYI, The City of Seguin changed the process from a postal mail notification / registration method to an online system in 2023 but didn’t provide notice to all the prior participants so when we found this out all the slots were already taken. Fortunately, we were put on a waiting list that required us to be ready to go at the very last moment in case others backed out. We were number 5 or 6 on the waitlist and did not expect to be able to partake, so the team put together a second tree (artificial this time) and placed it at the Aumont Hotel (see picture below). This was not for any contest, but was good advertising for the Master Gardeners and of course more fun for the volunteers! And as you saw above, we not only got notified that several businesses backed out at the last minute (which is kinda sad), but because of that not only were we able to still participate, we also won 3rd place!
