The Christian Cupboard is a totally volunteer food pantry located in Seguin but serving any resident of Guadalupe County who needs food assistance. The garden is basically a production garden with all of the produce going to the clients of the Cupboard. As the clients frequently come to the garden to “help themselves” (that’s what we’re there for) we have opportunities to provide gardening information when a volunteer is there. It’s hard to say how much produce is donated each year because the clients do harvesting. There are no scheduled work days except for major projects – building beds, spreading mulch, etc. A Master Gardener adopts a bed or half barrels and is responsible for planting, maintenance and harvesting. This allows the MG to work at their own schedule.

Other than that volunteers adopt a bed/planter and are responsible for all planting, maintenance & harvesting after the team agrees on who is growing what. Volunteers work on their own schedule. Task: Volunteers will monitor – maintain, repair, plant. This teaching garden provides produce for Food Banks and other needy programs. Please reach out to the POC if you would like to work in the garden. All volunteer workers welcome.In early 2022, the Christian Cupboard Garden was completely redone. The trees and old garden were removed and raised beds and barrels have been installed, drip irrigation was also installed, vegetables will need to be planted and tended to. Additional upgrades and raised beds have been installed recently as well (see the pictures below). Please contact the POC for project dates and times for volunteer opportunities.
The Christian Cupboard Community Garden is a work in progress. In 2023, over 1000 pounds of food was donated by the GCMGs. In 2024 we have already surpassed 2023’s donations.
