Woman writing on paperMaster Gardeners:  remember that to retain your certification you need to report your volunteer and continuing education hours.  The form for doing so is in an Excel spreadsheet, available for download.

To retain Master Gardener re-certification, each calendar year you need to participate in 12 hours of  “approved” volunteer activity and 6 hours of continuing education. The earlier that you report your hours, the better.  And, remember that our collective volunteers hours contribute to the sustenance of the Texas Master Gardener Program and the Guadalupe County AgriLife Office.

Download the form, complete, and e-mail to:  odvody@swbellnet.  Or download, fill-in the form and snail-mail to Ann Odvody, 4715 FM 2538, Marion, 78124-6636.

Blank Hours Reporting Form for 2012  (Click on file name to Open file and then save to your computer.)

Hints & Tips for Using the Volunteer & Continuing Education Report Form from Dale:

At the very bottom of the form you see a block with the words YourName in it. Please move your cursor on the block and double click the left mouse button. This will highlight the block. Please enter your last name and first initial (e.g. DoeJ). This will help me double check my postings to my master spreadsheet. Thanks.

Some of you are maintaining spreadsheets for more than just yourselves on separate data files. You can do this on one spreadsheet file by following these instructions:

Open the attached file

Move the cursor to the upper left hand corner and left click on File

Move the cursor to Save As and left click

In the Save As screen, select where you want the spread sheet stored and give the file a new name. Hint: If you use a numeric value like 1, the file will always be at the top of the directory when called up (e.g. 1DoeJ MG Hours 2012), if you leave your default settings to be in alphabetical order.

Now that the spreadsheet is saved on your computer where you know where to find it, you can make copies as needed.

Move the cursor to Edit at the top of the page next to File and left click on it.

Move the cursor down to Move or Copy Sheet and left click on it.

On the Move or Copy screen, left click both in the Create a Copy block and on the (move to end) line.

This will give you a duplicate spreadsheet in the same file.

Repeat these steps for however many spreadsheet you need to maintain.

When finished, follow the instructions at the beginning of this email to identify the spreadsheet owners and include the other individual’s name and class number at the top of the sheets.

Another Hint: When working with spreadsheet (Word also) you can easily bring up you latest files by left clicking on the File button. If you open the spreadsheet and left click on Tools, move the cursor to Options, left click on it and you will get the Options screen. At the top of the Options screen, left click on General, left click on the Recently used file list, and identify how many files you want the system to track and display when you want to open files (1 – 9). When you open Excel and left click on File, the most recent files used will be displayed, so you do not have to hunt them down to open them up.
